Monitoring Monthly Round-up
As November comes to an end, our monitoring team has remained busy delivering a broad spectrum of Air Quality Monitoring services across the UK. From BREEAM Indoor Air Quality Monitoring and specialist Bioaerosol Assessments to larger ongoing Ambient and Construction Dust Monitoring programmes, it has been another highly productive month marked by technical progress and key project milestones.
BREEAM Indoor Air Quality Monitoring
Throughout November, we completed post-construction Indoor Air Quality Monitoring at a range of developments, including a new educational facilities in London, the refurbishment of historic market in Manchester and a police station in the North-West. Monitoring this month was undertaken in accordance with the BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit-Out 2014, New Construction 2014, New Construction 2018, and Version 6 requirements, specific for each project. Laboratory analysis included assessment of over 30 Volatile Organic Compound and formaldehyde samples, enabling our clients to better understand internal air quality conditions and identify any actions needed prior to occupation.
Each scheme presented its own operational and technical considerations, giving us the opportunity to apply our expertise to support compliance with BREEAM Standards and ensure a robust assessment of internal air quality.
Bioaerosol Assessment
Our team were out again this month completing a series of Bioaerosol Assessment, including our routine quarterly monitoring at a composting facility in the North-West. As part of this work, we carried out Ambient Bioaerosol Monitoring in full accordance with the Environment Agency’s Technical Guidance Note M9 ‘Environmental Monitoring of Bioaerosols at Regulated Facilities’.
The visit began with a site walkover to identify potential emission sources and confirm on-site operational activities, before developing a monitoring strategy to accurately assess ambient bioaerosol concentrations. We are pleased to report that the results showed median concentrations of Aspergillus fumigatus and mesophilic bacteria were below the relevant Environment Agency benchmark levels at all monitoring locations.
These findings demonstrate continued compliance with the Environmental Permit for the site and provide reassurance that ambient bioaerosol levels remain within acceptable limits, reflecting the effectiveness of the control measures in place and the commitment of the site team to proactive environmental management.
Construction Dust Monitoring
Our team has continued to support several construction-phase air quality monitoring programmes this month. These projects involve the monitoring of particulate matter to establish baseline conditions, review on-site emissions, and assess the performance of dust mitigation measures.
Recent work includes monitoring within Greater Manchester, ahead of the development of a new supermarket. Here, we were instructed to deliver Baseline Dust Monitoring to quantify existing conditions on site prior to works commencing in the New Year.
We are pleased to support our client and collaborate with the wider planning teams to contribute to discharging planning conditions for the development and wider compliance requirements.
Looking Ahead
As we move into December, our focus remains on delivering high-quality, reliable Air Quality Monitoring and analysis across all service areas. With several long-term programmes underway and range of new enquiries, we continue to support development, operational compliance, and environmental best practice across the UK through to the New Year.
