January Air Quality Monitoring Round Up
January Air Quality Monitoring Round Up
January proved to be a strong and positive start to the year for the Redmore Environmental air quality monitoring team, setting an assured tone for the months ahead. Throughout the month, our consultants were active across a range of project types and locations, delivering high-quality assessments and keeping essential long-term monitoring programmes running seamlessly. This round-up highlights three projects undertaken across London, the North West and the North East, showcasing the breadth of our monitoring expertise.
In Central London, our team completed a programme of Indoor Air Quality Monitoring in support of refurbishment works at a magistrates’ court and a refurbished office building in the historic area of Westminster. Monitoring was undertaken in accordance with BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit-Out 2014 and included the assessment of Total Volatile Organic Compounds and formaldehyde across multiple internal areas. The results provided assurance that indoor air quality conditions were suitable ahead of occupation, supporting the client’s sustainability and wellbeing objectives.
In the North West, our consultants undertook a series of Field Odour Surveys to support a planning application for a residential development adjacent to an existing effluent treatment plant and close to a landfill site and waste recycling facility. Given the potential for odour emissions to impact future residents, the surveys were designed to establish baseline conditions and assess the likelihood of odour effects during operation. Three surveys were completed over a three-day period at five locations upwind and downwind of the proposed development, allowing existing odour sources to be characterised and informing the need for any mitigation measures.
Meanwhile, our Bioaerosol Monitoring team returned to the North East to complete routine quarterly monitoring at a waste recycling facility, undertaken in accordance with the Environment Agency’s Technical Guidance Note Environment Agency’s Technical Guidance Note M9, ‘Environmental Monitoring of Bioaerosols at Regulated Facilities’. Monitoring was carried out at three downwind and one upwind location to assess concentrations of Aspergillus fumigatus and mesophilic bacteria, addressing the requirements of the Environmental Permit for the site and supporting continued regulatory compliance.
Together, these projects demonstrate the diversity of work undertaken by the Redmore Environmental monitoring team in January, highlighting our ability to deliver consistent, high-quality assessments across a wide range of sectors and locations.
