Air Quality Monitoring Technician: What You’ll Be Doing

Based in Manchester, you will be joining an expanding air quality consultancy where projects range from single source dispersion modelling assessments through to complex, multi-source industrial emissions appraisals and monitoring studies. Working within the air quality monitoring team, you will be responsible for undertaking a range of surveys, including:

• Ambient air quality monitoring using passive and continuous automatic methods.
• Indoor air quality monitoring.
• Field odour assessment and source specific measurement.
• Bioaerosol monitoring.
• Industrial emissions characterisation.

You will be involved in all aspects of management and delivery of monitoring projects, including client liaison and logistical planning. Therefore, you will have excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as willingness to develop technical proficiency with a practical and flexible approach to completion of site work.

You will be qualified to Level 3 (A Level or NVQ) as a minimum and be comfortable with undertaking physical site work nationally with associated time away from home. In addition, you will be able to produce associated documentation, including laboratory chain of custody forms and technical reports, to a high standard. Practical experience in environmental monitoring would be advantageous, though not essential as full training will be provided.

Air Quality Monitoring Technician: Your Day to Day Duties

• Undertaking ambient, indoor and industrial emissions monitoring.
• Completion of field odour surveys.
• Calibration, management and maintenance of sampling and laboratory equipment.
• Liaison with clients, suppliers and consultants.
• Management of multiple projects and monitoring campaigns.
• Over-night stays and travel throughout the UK.

Air Quality Monitoring Technician: Your Attributes

• Practical experience in environmental monitoring (desirable but not essential).
• Enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to work on own initiative and problem solve.
• Practical outlook and ability to use common tools to commission on-site monitoring equipment.
• IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Possession of a full driving licence and access to a personal vehicle for work purposes.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK, with the requirement for over-night stays.
