From Geography to Air Quality: Meet Samuel Blake

SB

We’re pleased to welcome Samuel Blake to the Redmore team, bringing with him a strong interest in urban air quality, traffic emissions and the role effective assessment can play in creating healthier environments.

Having recently graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BSc (Hons) in Geography, Samuel is now taking the next step in his career, turning an academic interest in air quality into practical experience within environmental consultancy.

An interest sparked at university

Samuel’s interest in air quality developed during the final year of his degree, where he began exploring the relationship between transport, emissions and the urban environment in greater detail.

This became the focus of his dissertation, which examined air quality in Portsmouth and considered the effectiveness of the city’s Clean Air Zone in reducing emissions.

His studies also gave him the opportunity to work on consultancy-style projects, an aspect of his degree he particularly enjoyed. Combining analysis with communication, Samuel developed experience in presenting complex information through clear, concise and insightful reports designed for different audiences.

Keen to broaden his environmental knowledge beyond his degree, Samuel also completed additional training through APSE to become certified as Carbon Literate by the Carbon Literacy Project.

Turning academic knowledge into practical experience

Traffic emissions and their impact on urban areas remain a particular area of interest for Samuel. He is especially interested in understanding and analysing air quality trends and how this evidence can be used to identify ways to mitigate and reduce impacts.

Joining Redmore provides an opportunity to build on this foundation and develop the technical skills required to apply that knowledge to real-world projects.

Samuel will be gaining practical experience across different areas of air quality consultancy and working alongside the wider team on a variety of projects, allowing him to continue developing both his technical and consultancy skills.

The next chapter

For Samuel, joining Redmore marks an exciting transition from studying the challenges surrounding air quality to contributing to the work being done to understand and address them.

With a particular interest in traffic emissions and urban environments, he is looking forward to expanding his technical knowledge, experiencing the variety that comes with consultancy and getting involved in projects across Redmore.

We’re delighted to have Samuel on board and look forward to seeing his career develop with the team.
